Cheetah House

Cheetah House is a nonprofit based in Providence, Rhode Island, that provides research-based support, education, and community for people affected by challenging or adverse experiences related to meditation and participation in unhealthy spiritual or contemplative environments. Its mission is to support individuals experiencing meditation-related distress, train meditation teachers and clinicians to understand and address meditation-related adverse effects in a person-centered and trauma-informed way, and promote balanced, evidence-based awareness of both the benefits and risks associated with meditation practices.
Cheetah House offers a range of services including individual consultations with trained care team members, peer-led support groups (online and chat-based), educational resources, and professional trainings for mindfulness providers and clinicians to improve safety and care for those in distress. These resources help people explore their experiences, understand symptoms, and find community, practical guidance, and recovery paths that align with their goals and values.
The organisation emphasizes inclusivity, scientific information, trauma-sensitive practice, and empowerment, with the vision of being a global support hub for meditators in distress and advancing the field’s understanding of meditation’s complex psychological impacts.
