Cheetah House is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting people who experience adverse psychological effects related to meditation and participation in unhealthy spiritual communities. Its mission includes providing evidence-based information, clinical and peer support, consultation services, and support groups to meditators-in-distress and their families, as well as education and training for meditation teachers, clinicians, and organisations to help them understand and mitigate these effects responsibly.
The organisation was founded by clinical psychologist Willoughby Britton, who also conducts scientific research into meditation-related challenges, including the Varieties of Contemplative Experience study that documents a wide range of challenging meditation outcomes. Cheetah House emphasises informed consent, trauma-sensitive practices, and person-centred care, and aims to create a global space where people facing meditation-related difficulties can find understanding, community and appropriate help.
Services range from one-on-one consultations and professional trainings to research resources and advocacy for meditation safety, all grounded in current clinical and neuroscientific insights.
